Yes, you can apply for a driving licence address change online in Kerala on sarathi.parivahan.gov.in, and the official fee is Rs.200. Parivahan's Licensing Related Fees and Charges page, checked in October 2026, lists Rs.200 for "any application for change in address or any other particulars recorded in the driving licence". You enter your DL number and date of birth, choose Change of Address in DL, type the new address, upload proof of the new address, and pay online. The RTO that covers your new address then scrutinises the application, and the updated licence is issued after approval. Keep the application number from the acknowledgement: it is how you track the file until the updated card reaches you.
| Item | Official fee |
|---|---|
| Change of address or any other particulars recorded in the driving licence | Rs.200 |
| Driving test | Not applicable: no test is taken for an address change |
| New licence validity | Not applicable: an address change does not extend your licence validity |
That Rs.200 is the official service fee on Parivahan's fee page. The payment screen on Sarathi is the final word on your total: if the portal adds a card or postal charge for your application, it will show there before you pay, and you should pay only the total shown on the official portal. I could not verify a separate, Kerala-specific card charge for this service on an official page, so do not treat totals quoted on private agent or help sites as the Kerala figure. If you apply through an Akshaya centre or another help desk, any amount above the portal total is a service charge for their help (ask for a receipt), not a higher official fee.
Two practical points cause most rejections. First, spell the new address the same way on the form and on the proof: a different house name, ward or PIN code between the two is enough for scrutiny to query the file. Second, if your only proof is a rent agreement or a utility bill in a family member's or landlord's name, keep an additional supporting document ready and follow any direction the RTO gives at scrutiny, rather than uploading a document that shows a different address.
Our service page summarises the same route with a document checklist: address change on DL or RC. If your licence is also close to expiry, compare the timing with our guide to Kerala driving licence renewal fees before paying for two separate applications.
Many address-change applications are processed from the online file alone, with the RTO scrutinising the uploaded proof. That is not a guarantee for every file. If the proof is unclear, the address does not match, or your licence record is an old one that is not fully digitised, the RTO can call you in with the originals. Watch the application status instead of assuming silence means approval: a file held at scrutiny usually needs a document fix or a visit, and it will sit there until you act. Carry the original licence, the original address proof and the acknowledgement if you do go.
Parivahan does not publish a fixed Kerala timeline for a DL address change, and this post will not invent one. The honest answer is that the time depends on scrutiny at your RTO: a clean file with a matching address proof moves as soon as that RTO processes its queue, while a queried file takes as long as the query takes to resolve. Use the application number to check the status on Sarathi, and treat any exact number of days quoted on a private site as that writer's experience, not an official promise. Do not book travel or an ID check that depends on the new card until the status shows approval and printing.
If your licence was issued outside Kerala and you have now moved here permanently, the application is still started on Sarathi, but expect an extra step: secondary guides to the process describe entering No Objection Certificate or clearance details from the RTO that issued the licence, including the NOC number and date, along with proof of the new Kerala address. Because the exact requirement depends on how your issuing RTO recorded the licence, confirm the NOC position for your file on Sarathi or with the destination RTO before paying, and do not rely on a guide written for another state. Your vehicle is a separate record: changing the DL address does not change the address on your RC, and a vehicle brought into Kerala has its own re-registration and tax questions, covered in our guide to NOC for car transfer from Kerala to another state for the outward direction.
These are two different records held by two different Parivahan systems: Sarathi for licences and Vahan for vehicles. Approving a new address on your driving licence does not update your registration certificate, your insurance record or your challan contact details. If you have moved house, work through the list: DL address on Sarathi, RC address on Vahan, and the address held by your insurer. Our duplicate driving licence in Kerala guide is the related route if the card itself is lost rather than just out of date.
Rs.200. Parivahan's Licensing Related Fees and Charges page lists Rs.200 for any application for change in address or any other particulars recorded in the driving licence. Pay only the total shown on the official Sarathi payment screen for your application.
A document in your own name that shows the new address exactly as entered, such as Aadhaar, a passport or a voter ID, or a recent electricity bill. A mismatch between the form and the proof is the most common reason for a scrutiny query.
No. The updated licence keeps the validity of the existing licence. An address change only corrects the recorded address; renewal is a separate service with its own fee.
The approved change is recorded on your licence and a card carrying the new address is issued through the normal printing and dispatch route for your RTO. The digital licence in DigiLocker and mParivahan reflects the updated record once it is approved.
Yes, an address change can be taken up along with a renewal application on Sarathi, and each service carries its own fee. If renewal is due soon anyway, combining the two avoids a second card being printed with the old address.
Older licences are not always fully digitised. If your DL number and date of birth return no record, the licence details first need to be entered in the system through your RTO before an online address change can be filed. Visit the issuing RTO with the original licence.
